This paper analyzes both the utopian and dystopian aspects of American society in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s (1896-1940) The Great Gatsby (1925). It aims at depicting those through a careful examination settings, particularly East egg Valley Ashes. former represents protagonist’s ideal reality which he dreams becoming famous, wealthy, more satisfied. Yet, climax tragic ending reveal Egg society, such as chaos, prohibition, social disintegration. Likewise, valley ashes is made out ashes, its gray color stands for emptiness moral decadence people. hierarchy along with expectations, demoralizes people; worldly desires ruin his life well future imagines Egg. Thus, state material well-being emerged but lacking spiritual or purpose. Throughout novel, Gatsby’s shocking manners reflect post-war wild parties, illegal drinking, crimes prevail. dream wealthy leaves him painful awareness inferiority, isolation, ultimately death.
